The 82nd Annual Academy Awards

After a two-hour search on the TV, I was finally able to find the goddamn channel that broadcasted this program… Thankfully, I found it and watched it! In fact, I’ve never seen an Oscar live, and it was really fun watching it with friends here! I won’t post the whole thing here, I’m too lazy, sorry. I’m just going to blog about some of the highlights and awards I care about. The blog post was updated live, so all of the events below are in correct timeline.

Christopher Waltz (Best Supporting Actor) – I think his performance in Inglourious Basterds was the best of 2010. I would’ve felt very bad for him if he hadn’t got it because he definitely deserved that award. Congratulations!

Ben Stiller appearing on stage with the Avatar costume was definitely a great comedic highlight of the evening!

Star Trek (Makeup) — Definitely deserved the award. The characters looked almost exactly like the ones in the original series. The movie was a GREAT job. Congratulations to all three of the makeup winners!

Avatar (Art Direction) — Although I didn’t like Avatar’s story, I think they did a great job in set decoration and CGI, so I can say that they have deserved this award. Congratulations!

Avatar (Cinematography) — Sandra Bullock said that cinematographers’ jobs were to make the characters look good. The damn characters in Avatar were made with a COMPUTER, where you can make anything look just like you want! I’m sorry, Avatar did not deserve this award!

I have to say, none of these scores piqued my interest. I don’t any one of them are a match for John Williams‘ compositions. Without doubt, John Williams is the best film-score composer so far!

Avatar (Visual Effects) — I think this award should have gone to Star Trek because they deserved it more than Avatar and District 9. Too bad. I don’t think Avatar really deserved this effect…

Jeff Bridges (Best Leading Actor) — To be honest, I haven’t seen Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart, but I know that he is a great actor and I’m sure he deserved the award! Congratulations!

Sandra Bullock (Best Leading Actress) — She looked like a winner at the Red Carpet, and guess what? She got the award. We all knew she was going to get it! Well deserved, congratulations!

Kathryn Bigelow (Best Director) — I really think Quentin Tarantino should have gotten this award. If not QT, then at least James Cameron, but not Kathryn Bigelow. Congratulations anyway!

The Best Motion Picture Award…

…goes down the trash, because The Hurt Locker won it. That movie is WAY overrated and did not deserve that award at all. It was either Avatar or Inglourious Basterds.

Too bad that the 2010 Academy Awards actually sucked. I haven’t seen a less exciting Oscarcast, ever. Organization was perfect, Red Carpet was awesome but the nominees were just not enough. There were only a couple of them I could support. See you next year, with hopefully a better list of nominees!

Don’t think about zebras.

Are you thinking about zebras right now?

That is exactly what happens when you tell someone not to send notifications over Facebook. My friend told me not to send her notifications anymore, and that her brother was sending enough. So with his brother, we liked and commented on the photos and statuses of my friend, on Facebook. I think we hit a grand total of some 500 notifications that evening. Her reaction cannot be described using words. I don’t remember having such fun in a long time!

It’s unfortunate that she didn’t take the picture where we had the 500 notifications :(

P.S.: Right now, I regret liking and commenting on all those stuff. The notifications I receive everyday are incalculable…

A child controlling at JFK

Couple of weeks ago I came across a recording of a child controlling at JFK (supervised by his dad, of course). FAA has started an investigation for this; the father and the supervisor were suspended without pay. I think this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion!

It’s obvious that the kid was being supervised by his dad, and his dad told him carefully what to say. If anything, the kid said things clearer than any other controller at JFK! Since FAA is very careful about the controllers they pick, especially for airports like JFK, ATL, ORD, LAX, etc., I’m sure the controller was paying a lot of attention to what was being done by the kid.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association said the incident was “not indicative of the highest professional standards that controllers set for themselves and exceed each and every day in the advancement of aviation safely”.

The thing is, it is normal for FAA to investigate such a thing, but it is not normal for the media to blow this out of proportion, especially when there are people who are scared to fly.

Just shut it and let FAA do whatever they should. Enjoy the fucking humorous side for once! You may listen to the radio recording below:

Twitter is so much better than blogging…

As you have probably noticed by now, I’m a disaster of a writer. I am, however, capable of stretching 3-page essays into 10-page essays. Now that is called “bulshitting your way through an essay” and I think that is a talent! But, seriously, some essays topics are discussable in two paragraphs and people expect us to write 12-page essays for it. Well, I do write bullshit in them, because otherwise it will never, ever reach 12-pages. At least the topics we get in the university have a, well page-wise, longer core…

Well, I’m not planning to be a writer. Fact: I don’t like to write long stuff. Basically because I know I’m going to either screw up the topic or start bullshitting after a point (i.e. this post). Twitter, however, limits us to a good 140 characters. OMG! I can write my thoughts, short and simple. This is why I like Twitter!

(For certain friends: Yes, I used to be against Twitter and now I’m not. So suck it.)

Oh, by the way, this is a cool video:
